Default Fuel pump shut off question

Years ago I had a ridiculously lifted Toyota 4x4 and one thing it had modded on it was a fuel pump switch. I always thought that that was a great theft deterrent.
Anybody have any experience or thoughts with that? I kind of want to put one on my xj but haven't really found any good threads.
You're the only guys I go to to tell me what to think

I have a toggle switch under the dash that cuts ignition power.

That will work too!
Probably safer. I remember more than once taking off and getting about 20 yds before stalling out.
Do you have a writeup, or is it a standard setup I can search?

It came to me that way. I found out about it by accident.
