To start, it's a 94 4.0

When I first got it, the fuel gauge would only register in the morning when it was first fired up, but after a short drive the gauge would go past full all the way and the empty light would go on. If you were accelerating it would start to register until you let off, then it would go past full again

Being able to check it once a day was good enough, but now it doesn't register ever , just stays past full with the light on

Has anyone had this sort of problem before? How did you fix it? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated

 

yah replace the variable resister in the sending unit if u have the style the looks like a computer chip , they can be picked up at any auto store if its the style that looks like a piece of plastic wrapped in wire go to a junkyard and find one , had the same prob . now i can see how much gas i got .....gooodluck

 

you'll see it at the pivoting end of the float there will be a couple wires attached to it . the pump is stupid easy to remove too. just wait till u think theres little less then half a tank before pulling pump . gas showers kinda suck
