Default frontfriveshaft question

i have a 98 xj with a np231 TC and i need to know if the front driveshaft where it goes into the TC should have any in and out play in it, im trying to track down a roaring grinding noise and ive checked wheelbearings and and u-joints and came up with nothing. any help is appreciated. thanks.

yes it should have play, almost 1/4 inch. when you go over things if it had no play you'd loose it or it would smash into the inside of you tc.

take the front ds out and drive without it. if the grinding goes away its the source of your problem, if its still there, keep searching.

Well I would hope his slip joint in the front DS would take up most of that. Not the front TC yoke. No slip yoke on that end.
