Front windshield leak
 

For those of you with leaks at the top of your windshield, does it run down the glass or soak the headliner and drip down the side edges when you go around turns. I have a factory sunroof in mine that Ive sealed up pretty good and most of my leak is gone. But Ive still got some that saturated the headliner under the pass side sun visor then runs to either side and drips when I make a sharp turn. I do have a rust spot right by the edge of where the rubber gasket or whatever it is meets the roof. And its toward the pass side too. Its a 2000 so thats the style winshield moulding it has. What type of sealer is best to fill it with. Ive heard that silicon is bad for rust. Maybe roofing cement in the round tube with the caulking gun? I know that stuff is gooey and seals well.

I suggest urethane windshield caulking. The urethane has more integrity than roofing tar.
But tar has oils in it that are absorbed by bare metal and helps preserve it.

When my windshield leaked it ran down the A-pillar to dash, then behind the kickpanel and onto floor. Not sure if the leak was from the top or side of windshield.

The XJ sunroofs are notorious for leaks.

mine would drip in the middle and fill my change cubby (renix model).
turned out the windshield frame along the top was rusted pretty bad. had windshield pulled, fixed rusted out metal and reinstalled with an extra bead of windshield caulk along each side of my trim. hasn't dripped since.

Only way to repair, one can't stop the rust.

Well, I lifted up the rubber, blew out all the debris with my compressor and filled the channel with roofing cement, basically tar. I pushed the rubber back down and spread the excess tarover the top of it and the roof. Its sealed up pretty well. Not the prettiest right now but it will let me know if thats where the leak was coming from. If not, I will have to remove the sunroof and reseal it. The tar cleans up pretty easily with kerosene or lighter fluid.

So, it poured rain the other day and the inside is nice and dry. We're due for some major rain this weekend so that will be the real test, but I think Ive fixed the problem for now.
