Sounds good to me. I called in a couple of favors, and someone is gonna lend me a bay and lift. I think. I've been a Lion fan for 27 years, love the Wings. Met Sanders, Sims. Got eleven tixs to see wings/devils in jersey this sat. Gonna try to belt out bearings that morning.

Been a Wings fan since I was five years old. Learned to play hockey in Point Edward, Ontario because my home (just across the river) didn't have an arena. Gordie Howe was my lifelong idol. Back then, there were six teams: Wings, Leafs, Canadiens, Blackhawks, Rangers, and Bruins. To this day, I'm a fan of this six...all the other teams are DOGMEAT.
Where I live now, near Sandusky, MI, the local ice arena was donated by Gordie and named after his wife.

If it were me I would just replace the whole hub assy. Chances are the failures everyone is talking about are due due to dirt and crap getting in the bearings whie doing a backyard replacement. JMHO

Pretty much everybody who has posted here was referring to the entire assembly being replaced. For the money and time, it's really just not worth replacing only the bearing.

Hit my bearings last night. Less than two hours. Impact gun was the difference. I could have done it with ratchet, but why. Timkins slid on the spindle like they were seperated at birth. The sound of no sound at 70 mph is glorious again. Thanks all you guys for feedback along with critical specs. Next will probably be a couple of u-joints and front end bushings with shocks and etc.
GO WINGS!
GO WINGS!
1) Go to napa and get their cheapest one, with a 1 year warrantee. Replace every 11 months, or go with Timken.
2) Axle nuts is 36MM and be prepared for it to be a PITA. Your going to want a breaker bar and long pole or an impact gun to get them off.
3) You need a 13MM 12POINT socket, a regular 13mm socket will not work. I would recommend putting anti-seize on these bolts when you put them back in. They do not need to be replaced.
4) Theres a few tricks to use your steering to get the bearing off. You could probably look them up. The general Idea Is leaving the bearing bolts sscrewed in about 1/4 of a turn and turning the wheel with a socket on the end of the bolt and have that socket hit the knuckle or what have you, then keep turning the wheel and it will pop the bearing out. Again, I would read up on that before doing it though.
5) be careful with the axle shaft. There is a little rubber seal inside and if you are not careful pulling the axle shaft out (if it comes out on accident) than you can rip the seal.
6) put antiseize on the axle nut also when re-installing. Dont forget to use a new cotter pin.
Hope those help.. I know some of its been repeated.. this is just some tips ive run across while changing them (12x)

Moog is made by Federal Mogul. According to their website they are based in Michigan, but have manufacturing facilities in 34 countries. I use Moog hub assemblies, TREs and other parts with no complaints.
