front shock problem

on my front shocks, when the threaded spike goes into the engine compartment, a washer sits ontop of a rubber bushing. the washer is locked down with a nut. the washer keeps ripping threw the rubber bushings and gives play in the shock. i have tried stronger and smaller bushing but it still happens. it needs to stop happening. any pointers or ideas??????

With your shocks, do you have a metal washer and rubber isolator on the bottom of the fender well as well as an isolator and metal washer on top?
{ = metal
[ = rubber
| = fender well

{[|]} should look like that when installed

If they keep tearing, it might be weak rubber, and the only real solution are Shock Conversion - you'd have to buy new shocks for the front, but they are totally worth it. It will allow you to use eye-eye shocks instead of eye-pin shocks. eye-eye shocks are a lot stronger and you don't have to worry about ripping out the top pin.

I agree. Had a buddy of mine do that and it fixed his problem

i think i fixed the problem. i put an 3/8 flat washer blow the rubber and then a bigger dome washer ontop of the rubber. it has worked fine. i found the rubbers were ripping threw the engine compartment because of the hole was too big. it was like 5/8 and the spike on the shock was like 3/8. so my cheep way out is worked out ok. i hope

Nice tip, I will keep it in mind when I have to change mine out. Glad that you were able to get it figured out.
