Front DS vibes
Hi guys, I have another one here for you.
Over the summer I had a crappy metallic rubbing noise coming from my DS. I know this because once I removed it the sound was gone. I have since then had the shaft completely rebuilt and balanced. I recently put it back in this past Monday, and sometimes I have a somewhat crappy vibration, but other times it seems to be just fine. Not sure what's going on here.
I don't think this matters, but for information sake, it is a front DS from my 2000 xj that was in nicer condition so i decided to have that one rebuilt and put in my 97.
Could my front end being out of alignment have anything to do with this?

Also, it has like a "howling" sound to it. That's the only way I can think to discribe it. Possible bearing somewhere, maybe? The front difs fluid is full, I plan on checking the transfer case fluid, but I need to go get that massive Allen wrench socket head first.

Could be a problem with the rebuilt shaft. Taking it out and inspecting is a good plan.
Howling is usually associated with wheel bearings. Metallic noises, angry sparrows etc could be the centering ball in the double cardan.
I had a hum that would come and go on a long trip. I took out the front driveshaft and that went away but was replaced with a vibration at 80. Sometimes warn parts cause oscillations at certain speeds. As an example, I had a vibe at 50-53 MPH that went away when I changed ball joints. In replacing my control arm bushings I found they had been changed by a PO improperly and one was loose in the sleeve.

Nope, not lifted as of yet. Just waiting for my bonus to come in at the end of the year and the lift, wheels, tires, and parts purchasing begins.
I did just do the throttle valve cable adjustment cause I was having some transmission slipping going on. It made a huge improvement on that, and it also seems like it made the shaft quieter.
