Front disk anti-rattle clip: Yes or no?

1989 XJ 4WD. Clips were included when I got new pads and rotors. There were no clips in place when I opened up my brakes for servicing. I couldn't get both them and the pads installed with only two hands so I left them out. There is differing opinion online about them. In this forum I get the impression that I'm okay leaving them out. But I want to get clear opinion on that.

Question: What's the risk in leaving out the anti-rattle clips?

Thanks.

I've never used them on my '90 Comanche, but I think my discs might be different than yours. I've only seen one brand for my truck that included the clips. The other brands don't have them. Mine also didn't have them on originally (I've had the truck since new).

I installed them on my beater when I rebuilt the brakes last year, wanted to see if they would eliminate any of my noises. Don't think they helped much.

If its there put it back they also help center the pads keep the from getting kicked side way. Alsp overtime pads will wear grooves in mount causing issues.
