front dana 30 pinion nut
i read that it torques down too 210ft lbs.. is that right? that seems weird too me that a cane bearing would be torqued that high. i put it at about 30ft lb's and couldnt spin it by hand so i just snugged it up where it didnt have any play. i done the same thing with the rear and it is a 8.25 and i think it should have been torqued too 210ft lb's. should i go back and retorque them to what they should be?

It is spec'd at 210 and you only went to 30 and snugged it up! How many times have you hit your head lately? There is a reason that the torque specs are set at 210. If that pinion nut backs off at highway speeds the pinion gear can wedge against the ring gear and lock the axle up. That will not be a fun experience for you or anyone around you at 70 mph. Torque them correctly.

its not at 30 anymore, it has a lock not and loc-tite on it so it will be hard for it to back off.. so your saying it should be torqued to 210ft lbs? i think that seems high for a cone bearing..

i was told by a dealership today that you just tighten up till it takes 20 inch pounds to spin. it doesnt get torqued to 210 ft lbs because the dana 30 in the cherokees don't take a crush sleeve like in the grand cherokees... so now i have to take the rear end apart again and put a crush in it because i didnt put one it because whoever rebuilt it before me didnt put one in it. all i did was tear it apart and replace the old parts i took out with new.
