Front Brake Help, Please?!
Hi, I'm new to the forum and I have a lil bug that I can't seem to figure out. I just did front rotors and pads on my friend's 97 Cherokee, A/T, 150k, 4x4, completely stock. It isn't in the greatest of shape but needed brakes and pads badly (grinding, metal on metal)....Anyway. I replaced everything and when I was installing the passenger side rotor, it didn't seem to seat properly. It seemed a little wobbly after being installed. Anyway, I installed everything, correctly, bled the brake lines, etc.
I took it for a test drive and with light to medium pressure on the brake pedal there is a pretty significant pulsing. I took it back in the shop took off the front wheels and checked everything. Everything was good except that passenger side rotor. I took it off to try to see if anything was blocking it from seating properly and i couldnt see anything. NOW....The only thing I noticed odd was that the passenger side front wheel was also the only wheel that was installed on the car with 5 different lug nuts...none being the factory Jeep ones.
I'm lost at this point....I have some pulsing in the brake pedal at low-medium pressure, the rotor doesnt seem to seat properly, and the passenger side front wheel is bolted on with 5 different lug nuts (presumably from different vehicles, not aftermarket)
What do I check or what could this be?
Thanks A Lot For All The Help In Advance!

Hey,
1. Are the discs you buyed original Chrysler? If they are aftermarket "cheap" discs they could be badly fabricated (CNC milling) and have that "wobble" like you discribe because the "brakesurface" and the other parts of the disc aren't even.
(I changed the brakes on my mom's Mercedes one time and replaced the original discs with those cheap discs. I had the same prob as you had. Bought new discs in the Mercedes garage, problem solved...)
2.Have you cleaned all the surfaces before installing the disc (taking away rust, mud,...)?
3. Get rid of those bolts, they wil cause you nothing but trouble.
If the bolts are too short or just don't fit properly, you could hear a "klonk" when u make a turn. Bolts could break off and i think i don't need to explain the consequences
I think you should go for option 1 or 2, i don't think 3 has much to do with it.
Last question: Did it "wobble" already before you replaced the disc?
Hope i helped a bit. Let me know if you can solve the problem.
PJ

hey thanks alot....I did clean all the surfaces...in fact with a wire brush, so I know they were cleaned of any crud. The Jeep did not wobble or pulse before the brake job. I forget the brand of the rotor but I believe they were 2 year warranty oem replacements if that helps.
