Friend Drives Xj Now It Starts Differently
Okay so I went wheeling with my friend tonight, and he wanted to drive my Cherokee. He puts the shifter in the "1-2" spot and goes to do some donuts. Now everytime I go to start it, it sounds different. That's about as well as I can describe it. By the way, its an 88 4.0 auto. Any Ideas???

First, don't let your buddy do donuts in your rig. Second, be more specific... "different" tells us nothing since we obviously don't know what it sounded like before. Does it take longer to start? E.g. does it crank longer? Does it seem weak when you try to start it like the battery is low and having difficulty turning the starter? Like I said, you'll have to be more specific...

I think the best way I can put it is, there use to be kind of a quick rythym when it cranks and now it seems slower and a little off...almost like its trying to start on a cold morning. And I didn't know he was going to do donuts. Who knows, maybe I'll go to start it tomorrow and everything will be fine.

More then likely over reved the engine and might of hurt something. Try it in the morning and see if it still starts different.
I learned the hard way years ago never loan a car to a friend when my friend gernaded my 1981 Ford Fairmont sedan...............that I had transplanted a 1988 Mustang 5.0 ho, 5 speed, and 3:73. He called me saying it quit running and he coasted it into a parking lot, all over the parking lot was donut marks that lead to my car.
