Foul Smell, Hesitation & Check Engine Light

OK Guys,
Had to change a freeze plug, which meant removal of intake/exhaust. All went smooth and the project didn't take very long at all. However, now my check engine light is on, the foul gas smell is horrible, and I have a hesitation when trying to accelerate quickly. No intake leak. Running down vacuum. I have no OBD1 tool to check. 95 4.0HO. Foul order is probably 02, right? Could that also cause hesitation? Runs smooth at idle and after initial hesitation....
What say you?

1 check for exhaust leaks
2 replace o2 sensors

Could try CLEANING the O2 sensors... Recheck torque on manifold bolts. Check all fuel lines/connectors for cracks and leaks

Checked for leaks, cleaned the o2 sensor, replaced vacuum connectors that appeared to be bad and still have check engine light, hesitation and some backfire. I am beginning to think it could be timing?

What say you?

Tuning is all computer controlled at the distributor. Maybe a cam position sensor? right underneath the distributor. Try replacing O2 sensor first. I'll look up how to check the o2 tomorrow in my fsm. It has to have a certain voltage reading or it's shot

Lunghd.com on site tech... http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...iagnostics.htm that's for renix but I think the resistance on the oxygen sensor is the same.

could be a bad cat converter or clogged

Not very likely if it was fine before the repair.

Gentlemen,
I finally got around to looking further into this one and replaced the o2 sensor, cleaned the throttle body (full of black gunk) and she runs like a champ! Drove around the neighborhood with several hills and no hesitation at all, no foul smell and she flat moves. Thanks for the post and suggestions. I appreciate the help.

Next is to replace the spark plugs. They were gapped well over 35 thou and are not in the best of shape.
