I am in the process of swapping all of my interior lighting to LED's, and I have two lights hanging down under the drivers side dash. One works and one doesn't. I know that there are footwell lights in the XJ's, but where are these supposed to be attached to? Right now they are just hanging. If someone can snap a pic of where they are supposed to be mounted that would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Where on the Driver's side are they hanging? There are 2 bulbs that clip into the lower dash (the part with the vent by your knees under the steering wheel) near the center console to illuminate the ash tray and back behind the lighter. If those have fallen off, they might be what you see...

Both lights mount on the back of the lower dash.
You could try to get under there, but it's a pain. Just remove the 10 (or so) screws holding the lower dash on (there's one in the ash tray and one on either end from the bottom) and wiggle it loose. You'll see where they bolt in the back. (Gotta put the jeep in D or 3 to get the shifter out of the way, so the dash will come off).

Hard to see, but circled in yellow.

OK I found the places you spoke of. Got the hood release one remounted, but couldn't get to where the center one mounts. Is there a matching light on the passenger side? I felt around but couldn't find any light, nor is anything on under the passenger side. I've seen these lights in other XJ's but I'm not sure if my 89 has them. I will be ordering more LED's soon to finish off the interior so I'm trying to make a full list of what I need.
