Default Fog Lens Replace DIY Lexan?

fog light lens broke

im so dumb i tightened the case too tight and now the glass broke.

it is 3x5" lights that i mounted under the front bumper.

can i pick up a sheet of lexan (shatter resistant) polycarbonate and cut 2 - 3"x5" rectangles and put them there?

I am certain it would work, I am just wondering how hard it is to cut lexan.

I don't have a dremmel or whatever it is called at my place, but my Dad does I think. How hard are they to use?

Thanks guys!

PS: Finally got some rain here in Minnesota! Time to find some MUDDLES! (after i fix these fogs, i hate having 1 cracked lens, im super ocd when it comes to my xj lookin right when im rollin)

Edit : Here is a link to homedepot where I would get it, has dimensions on there. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...&storeId=10051

12"x24" and .093" thick.

If lexan is supposed to be tough, you will probably have a hard time with it. From my experiences cutting normal plexi glass with a dremmel, don't do it. It just basically melts and gets caught up in the cutting disc. It isn't a clean cut either. You can get special tools to cut it, which is your best bet. It's a pain to cut though.

Lexan is used in many lenses already, so I assume it would work fine. Your old lenses must have been thin and not very strong plastic. Lexan is shatter proof, but not a guarantee. Anything could still break it. Think of mythbusters and how they always used lexan so they wouldn't get hurt. Then they finally tested it and realized it isn't the strongest of all things. There are also different grades of lexan, so do a little research and pick one that is flexible, but won't flex too much and break. It is designed to flex on impact so it doesn't shatter.

ok thanks man. ill do a lil research on this stuff. the original lens were glass. which is a really dumb idea now that i think of it. glass offroad lights sounds almost like an oxymoron.

Yeah, that's why most are made of lexan, so they can flex a little and basically make the stone bounce right off. Glass in any lights is a bad idea from my opinion. But at least it doesn't get affected by the sun like some headlights. One great advantage of having a jeep, haha.
