Flexplate Problems
 

Hey, I was hoping someone could help me out. I had loose torque converter bolts which I tightened up all 4 bolts, which stopped the horrible sound, but there was still a little bit of clanking noise but was not much at all. A day later I decided to go back under, I did find 2 of the bolts had came loose again. I just tightened back up, but it's still making a little bit of clanking noise. I checked the Flexplate the best I could and I did not see any cracks. I was wondering what if the crank bolts could have came loose, and if so how hard of a job would that be, or if anybody has idea what I'm dealing with please let me know. Thanks

Don't forget your Loctite

It is possible that the crack is very small and hard to see,see the pic,this one I had to use some steel wool to see it,but I will admit I have old eyes.

So even if it's just a little crack it will make noise, and how hard is it to put in? Thanks

Most cracks are small unless you rip the center out of them,which I have seen before. You have to remove the trany to replace the flexplate,not hard at all with the right tools.

crank bolts coming loose is rare. i havent removed ANY flexplate/flywheel bolts that havnt had locktite from the factory...however chances are if the convertor bolts came loose you could have other damage to the flexplate.....

the flexplate is made to iliminate vibrations from the crank between firing, and if cracked or chipped they are known to cause problems, when removing they should always be marked. some flexplates are weighted to offset some of rotating mass of the crank also thats why they should be marked if not (lots of vibrations and drivability issues)

Well thanks everyone for there advice. I'm going to try to put a new flexplate on tomorrow morning and see if I can't get this problem resolved before it turns it to a bigger one. Thanks again!

ok so what should i do when replacing mine try and match the 2 together and make sure they match and install the replacement in the same position as the one i took off the vehicle
