Flat Leaf Springs
Hey guys, I was looking under my jeep the other day and I noticed that my rear leaf springs are completely flat. I mean no hint of an arch at all, almost looks ready to start bending the other way. I was wondering if it is dangerous at all to continue to drive with them this way, or if I should replace them ASAP. I only drive on the streets right now if that makes any difference. Thanks

Wont hurt anything since its strictly on the road, but Id replace them just cause it would bother me
|
Mine are currently like that, they actually bend the opposite way they are suppose to.
Mine was sitting for 2 years though... :P Id replace them, you'll get a better ride out of it.. or sounds like a great time to install a lift :) |
you should be fine just riding around on the streets. its actually pretty common with alot of stock xjs
|
Your fine. Most XJ's you see now-a-days have flat rear springs due to how old there getting. Our newest (2001) is almost 10 years old now.
I would not worry about it. Wait till you lift it. |
Yeah it's gotten to the point where you definitely feel every bump, especially if you go over a bunch of speed bumps like I have to on campus. I'd like to lift it eventually, which is why I'd like to hold off on replacing them right away so I can save up for a lift later, as it's my understanding that full leafs are the way to go vs. add-a-leafs.

Correct.
But if you are hating the speed bumps maybe it is time for some better shocks too. |
