Default Firing problems

Sorry for the big pics...
I have an 89 cherokee with a motor from a 94 cherokee.
I replaced the distributor cap and I tried to wire the plugs up exactly how every diagram i've seen says.
But every diagram also shows the bottom screw is on the right and the top screw is on the left. But on my cherokee of some reason my bottom screw is on the left and the top is on the right. I know the firing pattern is 1,5,3,6,2,4 but would that be the case with a 94 I6 also??? I had it running once but you could tell it was missing. Need help quick
Thanks kevin

The firing order didn't change. The distributor has probably been replaced and could be slightly off. JMO

Oh ok cool. But another thing I looked at 3 diff caps and my old cap and none of them show #1. Every cap i've put on does except the ones i've looked for for this jeep... Any idea where that one is?

From your picture it appears your dist is off just a bit,You might want to re-time it.

ok i'm really stumped right now... I changed all the plugs (they all were really bad) It started right up and ran for about 10 miles and started studdering and died and won't start again. I can have someone try to turn the ignition and fuel sprays out of the fuel rail a lot. So I don't think it's gas... I held a screw driver to the coil wire and it fired really good. All of the sprak plug wires were firing good. Tested each one with a screw driver and a bolr that was on the body and a screw driver. but it won't even turn over even for a sec. It will just sit there and keep trying to crank...

it is possible that it jumped timing, but I can tell just by looking at your dist that it is not in position, are you familiar with how to retime the dist,it is very basic.

How do you position the distributor? I've never even heard of repositioning the distributor lol.
But I started it and it ran fine till after about 8 or so miles and it just died... If it sits there for a couple of hours it will start right up but after a couple of miles it just shuts off......

The other thing it could be is the pcm for some reason is not pulsing the injectors. If you have spark, and fuel to the rail. The problem with that is it takes some tools that are not in most tool boxes
