Filling up tcase
I need to change my np 231 Tcase fluid but the fill plug is stripped. It's a hex. Is there anyway to add oil without taking that out? Until I can get another one put in

One way to fill it is to remove the vent hose from the vent fitting on top of the TC and use a hand pump (see pic) and a length of 5/16" inside diameter hose connected to the vent fitting. Not easy to get to.
The 231 holds about 2.5 Pints of ATF. Vent fitting (242 shown, 231 same): Attachment 310308 Hand pump, from most auto parts stores: Attachment 310309 |
They sell easy-out's for stripped allen head bolts the same way they do for regular hex bolts. You would just need to find one big enough for the plug, they would look like this:

Did you drain it already? What does the fill plug look like? I did this to get the fill plug off of my AX-15:

Last resort I'd get a good quality 1/2" drive Allen socket and weld it into the plug.

Strange.......
There are two plugs on mine.....one fill......one drain. I fill to the level of the fill plug and close it up. |
