Fan motor works on 1,2,4 not 3

2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ fan speed 3 does not work. I replaced the fan switch and the Blower motor resistor. Still have the same problem, did I get a bad switch? Or is there something else I need to look at. The fan motor works on 1, 2 and four.

If the wiring set-up is the same as a '95 the I'd imagine it could be a bad switch. If the resistor had a fault on 3 then 1 & 2 should not work as they are behind resistor 3 in the pack.

I'd suggest taking the switch out and use a multimeter on the continuity setting and check the pins on the switch, if you get a reading through the input pin and out on 1, 2 & 4, definitely the switch.

Not sure a 95 schematic works

Thanks for the information, not sure a 95 schematic works for a 2000. I just find it strange that I had no three, before I replace the switch. And still have the same problem with the other switch that I installed. I am thinking a wire problem. Not sure, I may just try to get another switch and see what happens.

This should be right for a 2000 XJ.

Something I didn't consider previously, check for continuity along the Light Blue wire at the resistor pack connector and the switch connector, there could be a break or bad connection at either end causing it to not work. Also check in the connectors that the wire has not pushed back out of either end as it may look like it's in but isn't.

How do I ohm out fan speed switch?

Do you know how I ohm out to see if the switch is bad? No markings on pins

I'll post more detail if you need when I get back.

So from your picture, Pin 1 is on the left and Pin 7 on the right. On the wiring diagram previously posted, next to C1 you'll see the numbers 1-7 representing the pin numbers. To do a continuity check probe Pin 7 as your input and 2,3,4 & 5 are your speed outputs.

Thanks

OK I ohmed out to switch it is good. So now I’ve got a chase wire and connectors
