Default Fan Clutch eliminator for a 96 XJ...Where to find one?

Does anyone know where I can find a fan clutch eliminator that will fit my 96 XJ?

My XJ is for offroad use only, I dont care about the extra noise or fuel usage.

It basically replaces the clutch with an adapter which mounts to the 4 studs at the pulley and the 4 bolts on the fan while keeping the proper spacing between the radiator and fan.

While offroad last week I tested a rigged fan clutch that was sealed with epoxy and it worked great the one day it worked, My temp never got above 190 while in 4lo on the rocks and the outside temp was in the mid 90s.

I do have an extra fan & clutch if anyone has ideas on how to lock them. (please don't advise JB weld, epoxy or RTV, they can't handle the heat. been there, done that.)

Thanks,

XJgirl

i know you can find the Flex-A-Lite ones on
Amazon.com Amazon.com
. it's basically a spacer that mounts right up to the bolts. i think for the Jeeps, it's about 1.5" spacing if i'm not mistaken, but up to 2.5" spacer could be installed without issues.

Thanks for the info, the flex-a-lite spacers are along the right line but i wanted to retain my OEM fan.

The link below shows one for a Corvette, I'd like to find out if the bolt patterns are the same as the XJ. It looks like it would fit, but without measurements it's hard to know for sure.

i thought the Flex-A-Lite ones had the same bolt pattern as stock.

the diameter between bolts is 2-1/4", and the fan itself is about 19-1/4". and i just double checked the spacing for eliminating the fan clutch, and it's 2". so, all you would need is the 2" spacer. it should still bolt up to the stock fan without any issues.

but, on the other engines used in the Chevy line up for 1960-1970, had the 2-1/4 bolt radius to the fans, but some of the v-8 engines had were a 2-3/8" diameter, which unfortunately was a little too large to work on our in-line 6 and 4 cylinders. it has changed in some variations over the years, so i guess finding the right years that match up dimensions would be the key to knowing if it would work.

I put a "Flex fan" on my 4.0 and all it did was overheat after 15 minutes. It was a 14 inch with a 2 inch spacer so IMO don't use a straight flex fan. You can also go for electric duels like I did... $20 at a JY for a Dodge/Plymoth Neon...Tj

You can tighten up a stock fan clutch by tightening the spring.

Or you could grab a NON HD cooling package fan clutch from a Grand Cherokee. Some guys claim these to be real noisy and overcool on street rigs in cooler weather... but sounds like it would work great for a trail rig.

Theres a long thread at NAXJA on this mod if you'd like to search for it.

I used a ZJ fan clutch on mine for about a week. It sounded like a freakin jet. I couldn't hear my exhaust, but my jeep never even got to 210* haha. Go to autozone and get a fan clutch for a 1998 Grand Cherokee 4.0L. Non max-cooling. The max-cooling clutch is thicker and won't fit. I probably only lost 1 mpg. The funny part was when I got past 3K RPM it sounded like the jeep was going to take off. The look on passengers faces was priceless.
