Faded trim

1 Attachment(s)
My 98 jeep’s trim and fenders are faded, seems like a common problem. Instead of buying new one’s I would rather clean, primer, and paint.
Any one know what kind of paint to use??

I attached a pic, showing what I’m talking about. My jeep is black and the faded black trim looks trashy. I love trashy as much as the next guy, but it seems like a cheep and easy fix so why not do it.

Thanks for the help.

i bought duplicolor trim paint from advance auto parts and it worked great that if you want the factory trim color.

I want to make it look original again, nice and sexy.

go to an auto part store and get some factory trim paint. duplicolor makes a great trim paint.

There's a product called "forever black" sold at 4wd.com and other places. I used it on my TJ flares, which are guaranteed to turn grey and they stayed black for about 9 months before needing a touchup due to mud being left on them for a week.

If you want a paint that can stand up to brush and trail usage then you want "Imron" but I will warn you it is about $140 a gallon. But is as tough as nails. Imron is what the military paints their tanks with.
A buddy back in Georgia painted his YJ with Imron and you never saw it get scratched off like the rest of ours with factory paint or aftermarket paint. We hunted some pretty isolated country and he was always the one to break into an old trail after it had been overgrown in the fall.

I dont remember where I saw it but there was a write up on how to bring your gray back to black useing a heat gun. I will try to find it. I think it was on JF but not sure.

I've tried to paint flares before as well, and even with good prep they flake off in about 8-9 mo. So I talked to a guy that works for a co. called DR Vinyl and how they do it is by using a heat gun. Funny you should post this, because I am going to do my flares soon, and was going to post how I do it.
