Default Factory tire carrier problem

I just got my first Cherokee and it was equipped with the factory installed rear tire carrier. When I got the Cherokee it had been taken off but they gave me all the parts, I think. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it mounted, I think something may be bent. Could someone that has one take a few pics of the mounting points for me? Thanks. See the pics...

This is the upper mount and it appears to be the correct angle

Here is the lower mount, it looks to be the totaly wrong angle but it doesn't look like it has been bent?

And here is an overall shot with it locked into the bumper plate.

The upper one looks good, But the lower one looks bent. I have heard bad things about using the factory carrier with larger tires, Not shure about with a factory size spare. It might be a wize decision to do a search on those. I know I wouldnt feel too good about those pivot points with the ball probably holding onto a tappered end in the carrier.

Default 93 Rear tire carrier

I looked a 93 that had a factory rear tire carrier. It came from the local sheriff's office with only 17,000 original miles. I would have braught it home but it wasn't what I was looking for.

Mine's an 89 and it is factory. I have a pic of the original owned at the dealership the day it was purchased and it's in the pic. It was an option for a few years.

cool. maybe you could relocate it to the rook and make some type of over head mount that swings down to get the tire of when you need it

The bottom mount is upside down. These pics are from a 87 I parted out.

There were 2 styles of factory tire carrier. The other style mounted to the the bumper only.

whoa, really. that would be a bummer to have. i liek the interior mount because there is a bit of an issue with people stealing exterior mounted spare tires in south texas

As Winston said, the bottom mount is upside down. Flip it around and everything should work fine. It also looks like you need the "check strap" to keep it from swinging too far. It's actually a check cable, though. At least the one at my JY uses a cable, but it could have been rigged by the owner for all I know.

Thank you so much for the pictures. That makes it a lot easier to see what I was doing wrong.

As for theft of the tire, that's what wheel locks are for and if they are determined enough to steal it oh well, at least I won't have a broken window!

Did you get the brace that goes inside the quarter panel to support the upper mount?

It was factory on my rig, all the braces are still there, the previous owner just took the swing out off for whatever reason.

I've got a line on one of these. If I don't go over 32" on the tire it shoudl work for me right? I can take it off the old one and ensure I get the bumper, braces, and everything. When reinstalling is there anything I could do to beef it up more?

There is one on the craigslist by me thats like brand new but I think it's overpriced (375). I like them although they do look kinda awkward. Haha Also I dont think it will work with my aftermarket bumper.
