Exterior Molding and Bumper
Does anyone have any pictures of an xj without the exterior moldings on the doors? One of mine is starting to fall off and I was thinking about just taking them off, but I didn't really know what was underneath them. Also what is the plastic molding piece that connects from the rear fender to the bumper called? I may have dented mine recently and want to replace it......oh and is the body piece in not on the door, but not on the windshield a separate body piece? or is it connected to the windshield somehow??

no idea what you mean about piece not door but not windshield. the front fender? if thats what you mean then yes its replaceable.
as far as body without trim and bumper covers etc you'll have to be specific about which year xj youre referring to.
Sorry I have a 2001 sport

I have a 96 so not quite the same, hopefully someone else will chime in with a 97+ pic without molding. I took mine off the day I bought it, but were talking about something a little different

The plastic piece I think you are referring to is the bumper end cap. Pretty readily available aftermarket. eBay is around $25 OR $30 shipped.
The other piece that you are describing that is not door but not windshield... perhaps you mean the A-Pillar. That is a structural piece and is not a replaceable panel by any standard method. That is part of the primary uni-body structure and would would require cutting and welding to replace. I personally wouldn't attempt such a replacement and would take it to a competent body shop for work of that nature.
To address your first question last, as for no side moldings. I have seen photos without but it is usually where they have fallen off and not intentional removal. To each their own, but I think it looks incomplete without that trim.
The body side moldings are 3M double stick taped on and can be re-done. If you removed them with care, you could always re-attach if you didn't like the look.
I also used Duplicolor/VHT Trim Paint to refresh my side moldings and bumper end caps. The originals are usually faded pretty bad and if you replace only one piece, like the rear end cap, the color will be way off unless give them all a shot of the Trim Paint to make them even and the same.
