Question Exhaust question

So, Christmas is right around the corner! Everyone excited? I sure am, because my present this year, to myself, from myself, and for my XJ, is a full exhaust system. The need for this is obvious, what with the car being 9 years old and whatnot, but was amplified a few short months ago when a hanger rusted out and I was forced to cut the back flange of the cat out. I've decided to be good to myself and get a full exhaust, top to bottom, which will hopefully help with a future stroker build. I am, however, finding myself stuck on a few points.

First of all, my previous XJ (the black one, as the name implies) had a strange exhaust setup. The DP was a y-piece with two pre-cats and a couple O2's. It was an 01, same setup as my current 00. I did a quick carfax back in the day and IIRC, it was NOT a California model, but instead a MI fleet model. If this is so, then does this mean the 00-01 XJ's all have this crazy emissions system? I'm looking to install a new header, and it's turning out to be a real pain to find one that is officially supported for the 00 year.

After extensive searching to no avail, I'm hunting for some resources on 00-01 exhaust info, as it seems pretty much every component is supported for 97-99 only, and it's hit or miss as to which ones will fit mine properly. Any ideas/suggestions/links, guys? Any help is muchly appreciated.

well if you live in an emissions legal state it is gonna be hard cause a good smog tech will notice that if u changed it, but if you dont then you can just get a good set of 97 headers cause u have the same exhaust ports as a 97 (or at least i think u do) and when you get a new exhaust just get a high flow cat and tell the people you get it from you want it to pass smog. there are always ways around it, but like i said, a good smog tech will notice it and fail u for tampering.

luckily, I live in Michigan, where we don't believe in clean air
So no smog checks. I glanced today while seafoaming and it didn't look like I have the CA emissions loadout on this one, but I could be wrong. I'll have to double check placement and quantity of O2's, but for those of you guys who have 97-99's, how many O2's are there? I know there is a post-cat O2, but how many upstream sensors are there, and where are they located on those years? I think Borla will end up supplying my header for this rig.
