Exhaust Manifold...time to replace

Hey all,

1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L

The exhaust manifold has a crack at the collector...shocking I know! So, I was looking at eBay options and wanted some opinions...recommendations. "Don't get this because, get this because." I'm not looking for a Banks Header or similar price/performance. Just something to replace my broken setup. :icon_wink:

Thanks!

I've been running this one for about two years, completely satisfied with it

Thanks guys!

Definitely a crack at the collector. I bought some "Muffler repair" gobbly goop on a recommendation that I try that as it would 1) Give better visibility if there is a crack and 2) Might help slightly with MPG until I get a new Manifold, for $3 what could it hurt! #1 came true anyways! :icon_wink:

People told me the same thing, "dont buy ebay brand manifolds because blah blah blah." I bought just a normal ebay brand manifold and it's been doing me wonders for about a year now.

Take it off and take it to a muffler shop I got mine fixed for twenty bucks.

We fixed one a big crack on our cummins work truck with JB weld, globbed the stuff on real good. Has held up good so far for about 2 years now.

Change your motor mounts that could be why the mani cracked. Mine were too.

Just a heads up, being the author of the exhaust manifold write up posted, be cautious with your 99. I listed '91-'98 because only EARLY '99 XJ's can use the APN with no issues. However, IIRC, the later years can use it as well but must do some slight grinding. Can't remember exactly. Otherwise, the APN is a fantastic header. I love mine. As mentioned, replace your Motor mounts if they're worn out. The increased virbations strain the header. Some people have gone as far as to install flex pipes in the downpipe.

I just bought and installed this one

http://www.am-autoparts.com/Jeep/Che...16/250322.html

and it seemed sturdy and well built, and install went well. Look for a coupon code, i found a 5% off code.

I do have a 99 with the newer exhaust manifold and the flange thickness was different between the intake/exhaust manifold. But i tried it anyway, tightened the bolts down a little more than the recommended 33 lb-ft and it worked just fine.

I don't see a reason to buy the apn without the flexible bellows for $60 more.

Good deal. I bought my blower motor resistor from them. $20.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one. The original made it almost, what 12 or 13 years? For $80, it's not that large of an investment if it only makes it a couple years.

Motor mounts didn't look bad while I was poking around in there. But, I have a fresh set that would probably easier to just replace with everything pulled out. Good idea! :icon_wink:

Thanks for the help and ideas everyone. New mani is on it's way. Project for next weekend! :thumbup1:
