In search of an exhaust for my girl's 98 xj. Previous owner said the cat went bad so he cut it out added a muffler and put a turn down on it. Needless to say, its pretty loud. My question before I just add to what he did on this xj, Will adding a cat back into the system help fuel millage out? She gets about 225 miles out of a tank while my 96 I get a little more than 300 out of mine? Does that sound right to you guys? I know driving habits can change that kind of thing but 75 miles worth?

I'm sorry if all of these questions have been answered already and im beating a dead horse.

If adding a cat will not add fuel mileage, Who is the best vendor to get an exhaust from?

Many times your local muffler/exhaust shop has good prices on all of those items, except for the down pipe. For that I bought one for my son from Quadratec about a yr. ago.

Walker makes a downpipe that you can get cheap from many places including Rockauto. Walker, AP, AP spun, and Thunderbolt cats from Performance-Curve.com are very good and affordable. Until June, you can get, after rebate, a Dynomax cat-back for $100.

Miles per tank is a tremendously useless way of gauging MPG with any accuracy. A cat neither helps nor hurts MPG inherently. Put a cat back on because it is the law and because no one wants to breathe dirtier air than they have to.
