Exactly repeatable overheating problem with '01
I have a 2001 4.0 litre cherokee that overheats exactly the same way every time I drive it into town, a 10 mile round trip. At 1.5 miles, the temperature gauge goes to one mark past vertical. It stays there until exactly 9 miles, when it quickly goes into the orange. Then, at 9.9 miles, it drops back to a bit past vertical, and coolant begins boiling in the overflow tank. If anyone can diagnose this problem for me, I could maybe save a lot of money and I would really appreciate it. Thanks :-)

Can u tell us what cooling system maintenance has been done.

is the coolant full when the jeep is cold? what have you done in terms of replacing coolant components.

The very first thing you need to do is stop driving it. You 01 has the 0331 head on it and are known to crack with even a slight over heat problem. I would start by doing a complete system flush, change out the t-stat check the water pump, radiator, fan clutch and a new radiator cap. You shouldn't drive it until you locate the problem or you may end up having to do a head replacement.
