INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY REMOVAL
WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS, Refer to PASSIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEMS BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.

Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Remove the steering column opening cover and knee blocker from the instrument panel.
Remove the bolts that secure the lower instrument panel reinforcement to the instrument panel armature and remove the reinforcement Instrument Panel Assembly Remove/Install .
Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds from the steering column. Refer to Steering for the procedures.
Unplug all of the wire harness connectors from the steering column-mounted components and switches.
Remove the three nuts that secure the steering column toe plate to the dash panel at the base of the steering column.
Remove the two nuts that secure the steering column mounting bracket to the studs on the steering column and brake pedal support. Lower the steering column to the floor.
Remove both cowl side trim panels. Refer to Body for the procedures.
Unplug the instrument panel to body wire harness connector under the left end of the instrument panel.
Unplug the brake lamp switch wire harness connector.
Unplug the instrument panel to heater-A/C housing vacuum harness connector (manual temp. control only) and wire harness connector located under the passenger side end of the instrument panel.
Unplug the radio antenna coaxial cable connector near the right cowl side panel.
Unplug all of the instrument panel wire harness connectors from the junction block on the right cowl side panel.
If the vehicle is so equipped, disconnect the in-car temperature sensor aspirator hose at the coupling near the passenger side of the transmission floor tunnel.
Remove the ash receiver and remove the screw in the back of the ash receiver housing that secures the instrument panel armature to the heater-A/C housing.
Pull back the floor carpet on the transmission floor tunnel from the base of the instrument panel center bezel and remove the two bolts that secure the instrument panel center bracket to the floor.
Remove the two bolts that secure the instrument panel center bracket to the driver side of the transmission floor tunnel.
Remove the bolt that secures the instrument panel armature to the steering column and brake pedal support.
Remove the two bolts that secure the ends of the instrument panel armature to the cowl side inner panels.
Remove the cowl top trim panel from the instrument panel.
Remove the two bolts that secure the ends of the instrument panel armature to the windshield fence.
Remove the four nuts that secure the top of the instrument panel armature to the studs on the windshield fence.
With the aid of an assistant, lift the instrument panel off of the windshield fence studs and maneuver the assembly out of the vehicle through the passenger side front door.
Reverse the removal procedures to install. Tighten the mounting hardware as follows:
Instrument panel center bracket to floor pan transmission tunnel fasteners - 28 N·m (250 in. lbs.)
Instrument panel to windshield fence bolts and nuts - 12 N·m (105 in. lbs.)
Instrument panel to cowl side inner panel bolts - 12 N·m (105 in. lbs.)
Instrument panel to steering column support bolt - 12 N·m (105 in. lbs.)

HEATER A/C HOUSING REMOVAL
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. See Refrigerant Recovery in this group for the procedures.
Disconnect the liquid line refrigerant line coupler from the evaporator inlet tube. See Refrigerant Line Coupler in this group for the procedures. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings.
Disconnect the suction line refrigerant line coupler from the evaporator outlet tube. See Refrigerant Line Coupler in this group for the procedures. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings.
Drain the engine cooling system. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened heater core tubes.
If the vehicle is equipped with the manual temperature control system, unplug the heater-A/C system vacuum supply line connector from the tee fitting near the heater core tubes.
Remove the coolant reserve/overflow bottle from the passenger side inner fender shield. Remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) from the passenger side dash panel in the engine compartment and set it aside. Do not unplug the PCM wire harness connectors. Refer to Fuel System for the procedures.
Remove the nuts from the heater-A/C housing mounting studs on the engine compartment side of the dash panel Heater-A/C Housing Remove/Install
Disengage the rear floor heat duct from the center floor heat duct adapter Rear Floor Heat Duct
Unplug the heater-A/C housing wire harness connectors.
Remove the heater-A/C housing mounting nuts from the studs on the passenger compartment side of the dash panel Heater A/C Housing Remove/Install
Remove the heater-A/C housing from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
Position the heater-A/C housing to the dash panel. Be certain that the evaporator condensate drain tube and the housing mounting studs are inserted into their correct mounting holes.
Install the heater-A/C housing mounting nuts to the studs on the passenger compartment side of the dash panel. Tighten the nuts to 4.5 N·m (40 in. lbs.)
Connect the heater-A/C housing wire harness connectors.
Reinstall the rear floor heat duct to the center floor heat duct adapter.
Install and tighten the nuts onto the heater-A/C housing mounting studs on the engine compartment side of the dash panel. Tighten the nuts to 7 N·m (60 in. lbs.)
Reinstall the PCM to the passenger side dash panel in the engine compartment. Refer to Fuel System for the procedures.
Reinstall the coolant reserve/overflow bottle to the passenger side inner fender shield. Refer to Cooling System for the procedures.
If the vehicle is equipped with the manual temperature control system, connect the heater-A/C system vacuum supply line connector to the tee fitting near the heater core tubes.
Unplug or remove the tape from the heater core tubes. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core tubes and fill the engine cooling system. Unplug or remove the tape from the suction line and the evaporator outlet tube fittings. Connect the suction line coupler to the evaporator outlet tube. Unplug or remove the tape from the liquid line and the evaporator inlet tube fittings. Connect the liquid line coupler to the evaporator inlet tube.
Charge the refrigerant system.
Install the instrument panel in the vehicle. Connect the battery negative cable.
Start the engine and check for proper operation of the heating and air conditioning systems.
