Evaporator core question?
2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I'm in the middle of doing a heater core replacement on my '90 xj and I am trying to replace my evaporator core while I'm in there. There's a line(not refridgent) running from what I think is a ac thermostat thru the hvac box and to the evaporator core that dose not want to come out, i'm not sure how to get it out. The replacement evap core dose not have a hole for this and the refridgent lines on the old one line up side by side where as on the new one there top and bottom. Do I have the wrong evap core? And how do I get the ac thermostat line out? Thanks.

I would think you have the wrong core.....In any event, that line I believe is a capillary tube, for temp control. High head, low head pressure. Someone chime in, I'm not too sure...but wouldn't doubt it...

Thanks for info, I'm finding while shearching for parts that jeep had two different ac options, factory or dealer installed, but I don't find different evap core options. So I don't know where to get the correct evap core from. Any ideas?

So anyone know how to remove that line coming out evap core(not refridgent line) and where to get correct replacement core? Thanks

MyCherokee is right, it is a capillary tube. Senses temp and in turn shuts down compressor to prevent evap core from freezing up. Can't tell from either pic, but is the tube installed into fins of core? If so you should be able to pull it out. They may be tight as you have found out. With new core use a blunt tip tool (ground down screwdriver, pick, etc.) to make a hole in core in same location as original making sure to not nick main tubes. Then just push into new core making sure to stay in between main tubes. For your info from the pics you provided it looks like it is factory installed if that matters. Could tell you for certain with a few other photos. If interested in that get ahold of me and I can tell you what to look for. Hope this helps.

Woohoo, I got the tube out thank you dsb0707 for your info on this one! But when I test fitted my new evap core it won't fit, so looks like it's going back and I'll need the correct one, anybody done this before and know who would have the correct one?
