engine swap question
My daughter has a 1989 Jeep Cherokee with a bad 4.0 liter engine. A buddy of mine has a wrecked 1998 Jeep Cherokee that is willing to part with the engine and transmission. My question is...Will the '98 engine and tranny bolt up to the '89 , and besides the ecu, anything else i would need to swap out?

Ok here goes.
The easyer way to do this is to just fix whats broken. replace the engine.
When using the newer motor in the older jeep you must drill a hole in the drivers side back corner of the head for the temp sensor, and tap it for the sensor out of the 89.
Also you will need to swap the flywheel/flexplate, distributor, intake and exhaust manifolds, and all front drivebelt brackets and accessories. Pritty shure you will also have to swap over the knock sensor on the block.
You can swap over the engine and transmission, But may find out that to be a larger problem with the ecu, wire harness, gages, and posably transfer case and drive shafts. Not to mention cooling system.

I just put a 96 motor in my 88. I had to put the intake, exhaust, knock sensor, both coolant sensor to the new motor. On the the exhaust manifold I had to mill out the front and back holes.
