It can always be done if you gots the cash!!!

Is the 92 in that much better shape that you shouldn't use the 92 as the parts vehicle for the 96???

id just run the 96, unless its in horrible shape, and the 92 was in better. even then id pull the motor out of it and go thro it, if the 92 was in better shape. just b/c i wouldnt want to change engine harnesses to run the 4.0

I find the hardest part about engine swaps is finding equipment.. engine hoist in particular. You can probably find a checklist online for equipment that you need.

I am in Houston. The 1996 needs new axles, bearings, brake pads, and rotors and i got n estimare of about 1100 buck to fix I figured that if the engine swap would be less than that, I would just do it. The 96 is a 4x4 5 spd manual and the 92 is 2x4 automatic will this make a difference. I was also told that I would be able to take the front drive shaft off the 96 and put it on the 92. Is this true? Thanks for the help.

So you want to take the 4.0 out of the newer 4 wheel drive and swap it into an older 2wd? Are you wanting to then convert that 2wd into a 4wd?

I am really confused to why you would want to do this, it doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

Fix the 96, you will be a lot further ahead. If your worried about the cost shop around. Or better yet get yourself a good service manual and tackle the work yourself, not too hard of a job(s).

To pay someone to swap the motors, swap the axles and such for the 4wheel drive is going to cost you way more then having the 96 repaired. Also you can replace the pads, rotors and bearings with basic hand tools. It's not complex at all. Rotors say around $40 each, pads about $40 for a good set, bearings about $100 each side so you are looking at $300-$350 or so in parts..Take you a couple hours to do it and save yourself a whole lot of headache and cash.

Am I going to be able to switch the axles from the 2wd onto the 4wd also? Am I going to be able to get the parts at the basic parts store? What will I need to do the job? thanks.
