Engine stalls will not shift normally
92,engine stumble misfires and sometimes dies and while running the transmission will not shift until almost 4000 rpms sometimes.Sometimes it shifts almost normal sometimes not at all.If it does not shift it begins to misfire and check engine light comes on.It will sometimes just die while idling, any ideas where to start?

Removed trans fuse and it shifts fine manually.Still has strange idle, acts like it is going to die, goes to 1200 rpm back to 750.

Most parts stores can't read codes for pre 96 vehicles. Use the the "key on-key off " method to extract your codes. Doing a search will show you how to do it. As for the high rpm shifting it could be anything from a bad shift solenoid to a faulty tps. A bad tps can really make your jeep do some crazy things...

Screaming loud a bad TPS to me. It's really rare I'd suggest just buying a new part without testing, but the stalling and shifting.....Do check the wiring plug and the wiring. TPS
OBD1 Models: 1991-1995
1) Start engine (if possible). Move transmission shift lever
through all positions, ending in Park. Turn A/C switch on and then off
(if equipped).
2) Turn engine off. Without starting engine again, turn
ignition on, off, on, off and on within 5 seconds. Record 2-digit
fault codes as displayed by flashing MIL.
3) For example, fault code 23 is displayed as flash, flash,
4-second pause, flash, flash, flash. After a slightly longer pause,
other codes stored are displayed in numerical order. When MIL begins
to flash fault codes, it cannot be stopped. Start over if count is
lost. Code 55 indicates end of fault code display.
