holy crap! thats horrible! sounds like a bunch of rocks in the oil pan Hows the oil pressure? Is the noise louder from the top of the motor or bottom?

that just crossed my mind too,... Pop the inspection cover and see what you find

I would do the easiest check first, take the inspection cover off, check the bolts and look for cracks.
If you find nothing, look for a new motor or get a rebuild kit.

Mine sounds worse though.

If bolts are tight.. cracked flywheel then...

tj40 May 12, 2010 06:56 PM

try taking the serp. belt off and restart it. My a/c comp. sounded kinda like that, on a different vehicle.

I betting on a cracked flexplate, or loose bolts. The engine sounded fine, the flexplate? Not so much.

myHEEPis.rad May 12, 2010 09:15 PM

thanks guys ima get to checkin out my torque converter bolts and my flex plate. im living without net right now so i'll shoot an update once i figure it out/get a chance.

El_Pedro May 12, 2010 09:44 PM

when my torque convertor bolts got loose it sounded exactly like that... only much worse... it sounded like the engine was gonna blow

Bustedback May 13, 2010 11:18 AM

A rod knock will have a steady rythem, a flexplate will have more of an eratic rythem just like what was heard in the video.

this is what mine sounded like:

sorry for the bad quality video... main camera was broken

if no avail on the other listed ideas, check your water pump.... my water pump bearing blew out and sounded all clatery like that, i honestly thought my motor was done but them wiggled the water pump pulley and realized the issue.... motor still ran fairly cool and everything...

lol its kinda funny like show-code, but the 2nd jeep i owned; the torque converter had a single loose bolt and made a bunch of noise, i bought another donor jeep and swapped the motors out (old motor 189K, the swap motor 154k :D) i realized about an hour after the whole swap was done that i just payed some dough out for a motor swap i didn't need lol.... my bro did some of the work and he though i pre-losened the bolt so he never said anything to me till it was done lmao!!

check your bottom end could be main bearings
