Engine out, exhaust in the way, trans weight distribution?
 

Hi all,
I'm in the middle of swapping in a new engine and currently the exhaust has been routed for a trans drop.
this drop i have currently removed and plan on keeping it removed. This has my exhaust and hangers free, but bound in an unnatural position and the exhaust is in a difficult position for installing the engine.
the Trans cross is bolted up, no engine and I need to remove the cross and exhaust for re install. I'm trying to not cut the exhaust if I don't have to.

How will the Aw4 trans/np242 distribute it's weight if i unbolt the cross member completely? Its currently bolted on with one jack stand on the bell.

I'm racking my brain trying to think of what's Safest to do?

I think the best thing to do here is to separate the exhaust. If you take the tranny mount loose, the trans will rotate from the uncentered weight of the transfer case, unless you take it off first

You want to remove the transmission to get the exhaust out of the way to install the new motor?

My first response is, "The old motor came out that way, why won't the new one go in the same?"

My second response is, "The other guy is right, separate the exhaust and move on. Don't mess with the transmission."

The exhaust won't separate without cutting, or removing the crossnember.

Are you suggesting cutting?

If safety is your no1 consideration, then remove what needs removing to make the job easier & safer for you, even if it takes you longer

removing the TX case, xmember, and resting the trans on blocks will only take a couple of hours extra
