Engine Oil Smells like Gasoline and Oil Creeped up Dipstick
Hey All,
Sorry for re-posting about my issue. Worked today and have been researching a ton about my issue so Im tired and can't see straight. :-)
Alright. So as some of you have probably read, I checked my Oil two days ago and noticed the distinct smell of gasoline. It isn't over-powering, but you definitely notice the smell of gas on the dipstick. Well, I invited a guy of CF to take a look for himself, and he said the Oil is past the safe mark on the dipstick. Yes, we wiped it off and re-inserted it 8 different times. Everyone on here is telling me their bet is either a stuck open fuel injector, or my rings are failing. I haven't driven it much lately, only started it and idled it for ten minutes for three days straight. I know rings don't provide a perfect seal, but what is freaking me out is that the oil creeped up. I don't know if a ton of gas leaked in, or if it is coolant. My coolant is full and my gas gauge is still where it was before. Idk...Ive got a pissed off XJ. I knew I shouldn't have drove that rental Wrongler! :-) Again, I apologize for re-posting...1996sportXJ Wanna chime in? :-)

Actually, My Mother does not help me with my vehicle. Also I pay $267.00 a Month for Car Insurance, Put $80.00 in my tank atleast every two weeks, plus any modifications and or repairs I may do. To add to this, I also have a Full-Time Position doing data entry at my local Copy & Fax center. Quite honestly, what you wrote was a bit rude, and I didn't appreciate it.

I thought this thread was gonna go Jerry Springer on us. I'm relieved. Phew!!!
So, it's above the Safe mark and below the Full mark?
Do this. Lift the dipstick out and leave the oil on the tip. Allow the oil to drip on your hand in that web between your thumb and index finger. Does it flow into every little nook and cranny on your skin that you never realized was there, or stay pretty well pooled up?

What I would do is pull the fuel rail, leaving all the injectors in the rail and the fuel line hooked up. With the rail/injectors out, turn the key to "on". Any leaking injector(s) should be obvious.

Do the test I described. It will narrow down whether you have alot of gas in your crankcase or just a little.
