engine oil cooler

Default engine oil cooler

I want to install an engine oil cooler like this one



my question is, do I need to modify the oil pump?

I would say no modifications to the oil pump is needed. Just a good place to supply the oil. Most kits come with an adapter for the oil filer which screws on giving you a feed location for the Cooler while the filter is just extended a little called sandwich style. Also you have a remote style which moves your oil filter to another location. Best Explained by these pictures.

Take into consideration that with this you will need more oil. The farther away you go the more oil you will need.

majority of the "oil coolers" are done with a sandwhich plate and use coolant to cool the oil....this is done to avoid the pressure loss and longevity and to keep the oil in the pan where it is safe.

if you decide to do this take pics i have been considering doing one myself to keep the oil cool while out on the trail for the day and you may want to look at this set up it comes with the adapter already http://www.jegs.com/i/Flex-a-lite/400/3951/10002/-1
