Engine Noise?
I just picked up an 01 Cherokee with 181k off of CL for 300. I knew it had some problems. I've installed a new battery, starter and I got it fired up. Horrible noise is coming from Cyl 5,6. It appears to have a head gasket problem also. I added a link to the video of it running to see if anyone has ever come across this same problem.

Sounds bad and it looks like your oil has gone all nesquik which likely means a bad head gasket among your other problems. That motor sounds like it's toast.

Yea I ran out of daylight today. I will be pulling the pan tomorrow and getting it situated in my garage for the engine tear down. Any recommendations on rebuild kits?

I have done some research and seen some people only changed the broken piston. This is just going to be my vehicle to and from work. I'm not going to wheel it. I might lift it down the road. I plan on doing new pistons all new bearings new timing set, water pump, alternator, oil pump and a new radiator. I'm going to send the block and head to the machine shop to have them checked.

I have mixed feelings on rebuilding a block that's marinaded in antifreeze, unless you check/replace the cam bearings too. Particularly with '00 and '01 which seem to develop low oil pressure problems somewhat easily.
What did it have for oil pressure, hot idle, before you started dismantling it?

It was 40 PSI at idle cold. I didn't let the engine run for longer than 3 mins. The jeep has been setting since Oct when the problem happened.

Well I haven't really found out the cause of the noise in the engine. I have just been working non stop. I was attempting to take the engine only out and 1 of the external Torx bolts stripped the head off. So I removed the engine trans and tcase.

If you have not replaced the cam bearings, bored the cylinders if needed, line bored the cam and mains, and surfaced the top, you have not rebuilt the engine, you've just swapped a few parts.
The cost of doing those things is trivial once you are that far. It makes no sense at all to not do them.
