Default Engine Doesnt Start- Electrical???

Just dropped a new battery in my engine and went to start it up, when I turned the key, I heard it try to fire for a quick second, but then silence. My light in the car was really dimmed and it was like the battery was drained as soon as I turned the key. The last time it was running, my battery light came on when I was driving home. When I stopped at my house the engine just shut off...

PLease help me

Have you checked the ground wire at the block? also check the wires at the starter. Whats the voltage at the battery? If you have over 12.5 at the battery and your dome light is dim you most likely have a grounding issue. Did you re-connect the wire going to the inner fender?

Sounds like the alternator shorted out. Try taking the cables off the alternator then starting it. Make sure the cables are safe.

x2...the bad thing is if one has a bad battery, it can cause the alternator to go bad, and if the alternator is bad, it can cause the battery to go bad...

My dad said it might be a bad starter... He said to try tapping on it with a hammer? What do ya think?

You could always try a new starter. mine was a combo of that and a neutral safety switch, both went out at the same time
