Electrical issue
Hi Guys,
I have a 1999 sport. The last month or so the check gauges light has been coming on occasionally with the alternator gauge bottoming out. If I restart it, it's usually fine for a little while, but won't maintain 14 volts. At times, it's struggled to turn over, and the power windows barely work. After a 1 mile drive to the store, it starts back up and everything seems perfect.
This morning, it wouldn't turnover, just the dreaded click of death. I put a charger on it. I checked on it after about 30 mins, and the needle was going crazy. It was flipping back and forth between fully charged and completely dead. I moved the ground clamp of the charger to a bolt on the body (It had been on the battery terminal) and it was then showing fully charged. The jeep started, but stalled unless I kept pumping the gas pedal. I put the charger back on and it showed that it was dead again.
I hooked up a computer but there were no error codes.
Edit: The battery is holding 12+ volts just fine, but the amps on the dash gauge is around 10. It still won't run without pumping the gas.
Any ideas?
Thanks
