Electrical gremlins have taken over my Jeep
Ok guys, here’s the story…
My Jeep has been off the road for a while now with a variety of issues...
Firstly, the TPS decided to stop letting my AW4 change gear. Wouldn’t shift out of first. TPS replaced and that worked (kind of) ok. When I say ‘kind of’ I mean that since it was replaced, if I touch the throttle very lightly, the engine will stumble and miss. If I press the pedal a little more, it’s fine. It also (with the new TPS installed) randomly downshifts out of overdrive when doing over 50mph and then changes back again.
Anyway, after changing the TPS, my heater core developed a huge leak – as a result it’s now bypassed until my soul will allow me to see past the rest of the Jeeps issues.
Now, I have a bad misfire – codes are P0202 and P0203. I have ohm tested injectors and all are showing around 12. It also smells really strongly of gas – to the point it smells dangerous. I have cleaned the electric terminals in the injectors and the connectors to them. I was advised to check the wiring harness to the injectors as they can rub through – but this checked out fine.
Also now, the Jeep will barely run – it idles at 200rpm.
I have started it again tonight and I know the gas tank to be empty – at least near enough, however the fuel gauge now reads just under half a tank! I give up! I honestly think this thing either has a mind of its own, or it simply doesn’t want to be a Jeep anymore.
I plugged back in the old faulty TPS just to see if it wouldat least idle correctly but it didn’t.
If my PCM is bad, being a UK model it’s likely to be dropped off at the junk yard.
When I finally get round to figuring out where these gremlins live and eliminating them, I will post back here what I did. My friends are finding my Jeep stories more and more amusing.
If anyone has any helpful pointers I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

It was last run a few weeks ago... It was fine until I replaced the TPS and bypassed heater core. Now everytime I start it something else is wrong.

Yes, I have considered doing that. The new one is crown branded. They seem to be very popular across Europe as preferred supplier for aftermarket jeep parts. Would love to get hold of a mopar tps. Unfortunately the dealers over here will laugh asking for genuine parts of that age.
