Electric fan. Fresh start!
Hi all, I have an 89 Laredo xj. It has the clutch fan and that does the cooling job but id like to have an efan with it. It has never had an efan before. Will any factory wiring be there? Or can I just start fresh with my own wiring? If so what would be the best way to wire it? I'd like it to come on automatically when it gets above 210 but also be able to switch it on myself. Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys!

It's never had an electric fan? So you just have a big space behind the radiator, passenger side? Take a look around there. There should be an unused plug that's sittin around. Mine has 2 wires to it, a green and a black wire. I'd want to see pics of your engine bay.

My e-fan is on the driver side. Though I don't know if my fan was added in at a later time. There is some electrical tape on the wires so I know that's not from Jeep. Mine turns on when the engine hits 210 but I'd like it to turn on with the A/C

Yeah, they're on the driver's side. I think 1996sportxj just went dyslexic for a minute. Or a brain fart.....

Ok took some pics there is a spot on the drivers side for the efan. I also found a plug but not sure if it's the one I need. I guess when the PO replaced the radiator he decided it didn't need the extra fan. Whatever though I'm dropping a new one in.

This is the plug I found. Is it the factory fan plug?

Does/did it have factory a/c?.....it's my understanding that XJs that left the factory without a/c and with standard cooling (rare on both counts), only had one fan.....the belt driven fan.

Ya it has a/c. Didn't know that some came without. Did it have a smaller belt or was there something else in the compressors location? Which wire is negative on the plug of you know? I have to splice in a new connector for the fan I have.

Theres two different style plugs for different design fans .Putting newer style aux fan would be best choice and a fan shroud for clutch fan would deff be a plus.

That looks like the efan plug if you ask me. Then again, mine has never been plugged in. The PO of my XJ wired it to a switch. The plug that I have just sitting around over there looks exactly like that and I always assumed it was for the efan

The plug in the picture was the one for the fan, I cut it and spliced in the new plug. I hooked up the fan and switched on the ac and it works. However there is no TFS. But when I look on rockauto for the switch it has a male connector on the end. In the jeep there is only one other plug on that wire loom and it too is a male plug. Whats up with that?
