I've read in a few places something about the screws on the ECM being to long and cause a small short, that leads to stalling, and possible rough idle? Is this true, and does anyone know the specific of this, like, year it effects?, what to look for? fixes?
Thanks,
J

It affects 1996 and newer grand cherokees. The screws holding in the ecm in place are stopped from grounding out by plastic bushings. These bushings wear down allowing the screws to intermitently ground out the ecu. A way to test if this works for a cherokee or not is to back the screws out a little and see if the car runs fine. Again i think this is for ODB2 grand cherokees only but im not completely sure.
So it's not such a matter of the screw being "too long," but of the screw seat in the ECU case being "too thin" and wearing through to the metal? Sounds like something that can be readily fixed using a couple of Nylon or fibre washers...
