I'm gonna disagree with 1990. You shouldn't just take one persons experience. Keep looking for opinions and experiences before making your decision.
Unfortunatly for manufacturers, an old marketing rule goes do something right and MAYBE 4 people will tell others. Do something wrong and 12 people WILL tell others. Meaning the deck is stacked against you.
Heres the other thing. How many here spew the party line that ONLY original equipment will work on your engine, but then do everything in their power to change out their suspension and tires and stereos and lights and roofracks and seating and exhaust and aircleaners and on and on and on and on....... Get the picture?
You have to ask yourself what it is you hope to gain by changing to the E3. Horsepower? Milage? Easier starting? Does this plug promise any or all of these or whatever it is your looking for?
Then give them a try.
BUT look at it like an experiment. It's what 6 times $4 for the plugs? $24? About what you'd pay for a case of beer (not here $45!)
If they work like advertised BONUS! If not scratch them off the list and try again.
It's funny how guys will spend 100s of dollars experimenting with tire wheel combos but SCREAM blue murder when a $4 plug doesn't rock their world
Rant off

Then why do both my jeeps my wifes saturn, my 1972 Ski Doo my 81 harley my snowblower my lawnmower my dads crown vic his snowblower my buddys f150 my uncles caravan my neighbours suburban ALL my business partners toys (How come he has so many?) all work better using Bosch Platinums. We all noticed faster starting. RIGHT AWAY! they all seem to run smoother and I've noticed an increase in milage in the wifes saturn.
Did we all just get lucky?

I guess so, u also have to make sure your plugs are gaped, but JEEPs are rested tuned and everything from factory on champions, and u using platinums in a lawnmower ur just a crazy person haha.

Isn't the suspension tested tuned and everything from the factory? Changed anything?
Have you replaced the tires the jeep came from the factory with the same tire?
Your argument is false.

No my argument is not false, and i have replaced the suspension with other tested and approved suspension. i could care less what u do, i gave facts to the gentlemen that was asking, you really have no right to thread jack him. if you would like to debate set up a thread and i have no problem throwing more facts at you.

heard this argument before, just google "platinum vs copper plugs"
I've also heard the rant: "I put Bosch plats in my rig, now it runs like crap"
Currently I'm running bosch platinums, and guess what? I didn't notice an improvement at all.
There are other factors that can effect ignition performance other than plugs. For example: voltage is important no? if your spark is underpowered, it won't matter what plug you throw in there, it will run like crap. If Platinums are working for you, then cool.
Bottom line for me? Good copper plugs are good enough for my jeep.

I have the same year cherokee as the OP. The E3 plugs made mine idle really rough. Put the recommended champions in and it idles smooth and starts faster than before. It says under the hood near the firewall what plugs are recommended. Its in your best interest to use those.

Well facts for the E3 plugs are, they will give a better burn and help with emmissions. The guys on Horsepower TV ran the same engine through several sets of plug including the E3s. Slight HP gains (granted on a well built, well tuned motor on a dyno), as well as cleaner emmissions than any other plug.
I will admit to trying different plugs over the years and steered clear of some of the oddball ones. But the E3s are new and seem to be a good product. So, I will be getting the E3 plugs myself pretty soon. And I will admit that sometimes the best plug for the job turned out to be the manufacturer spec'd plug. But rare.
Not sure what your "facts" were other than don't run them.

you can get a set of copper cores for 12 bux for your xj, and they are proven to work well...why else would the factory put them in? Yes you can get some performance gains from putting new plugs in, but most of the time that is because your old plugs were going bad, or wearing away and making your vehicle run worse. Have not experimented with E3's...did run bosch's in my explorer...but not for too long, switched back to champions as the bosch plugs made it idle rough.

Sorry I was thread jacking too!
To the OP: Here is an article on plugs
http://www.se-r.net/engine/platinum_copper_ngk.html
I don't think you can gap the E-3's (they have that funny prong design)
But if you want to, run them anyway, and be sure to post back here with the results!

Thats basically what I'm saying in post 3. Use what works for you.
NOT the Don't use brand X they didn't work for me so they sure as crap won't work for you statement I KEEP seeing. How about a constructive discussion as to what you used and WHY they didn't work OR DID work for you instead of the oh so quick off the line "Don't use X because I said so"
this is STILL about his plug choice.
I still say try them AND WHY. Notice I didn't say use the brand I use?
