Check under the jeep on drivers side frame rail near rear tire. There should be a bracket that holds the e-cables. If it's still connected, then check all three cables coming out of it. Two goes to either end of rear axle and one goes to the handle.

Remove the inner box of center console and shine a flashlight down there, see if the the ratcheting mechanism is still intact

I have an E-brake question - hopefully someone here can help!

I'm trying to remove the Console off my 1988 Cherokee, but I can't get the E-brake handle pulled up high enough to allow the Console's Center Panel to slide off of it. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
