dying on me sometimes

Default dying on me sometimes

i got an 89 cherokee 4.0 and it starts fine but when i put it in drive or reverse my rpms drop and it dies on me. It starts back up fine. any info would help thanx

check and adjusted TPS still dies on me when putting in drive and Reverse well i can keep it going if i step on gas. the rpms drop when i shift to D or R and if i dont push gas it will die.

How old is your Catalytic converter? How is the fuel pressure?

aint got catalytic what the easiest way to check fuel pressure

there is a small nipple on the fuel rail...looks like a valve stem for your tires. open it up and push the pin in. If fuel sprays out then you have good fuel pressure before the injectors. If it just drips out, then your fuel pressure is not what it needs to be.

checked it and didn't exactly spray out with force it was more like a stream like it had some pressure.

Well, you have good fuel pressure. I will do some research and figure out where to go from here....so it only dies in D or R? Have you flushed the trans and changed the filter?

yea as soon as i shift to R or D my rpms justs drop and it dies but it will start back up fine. no havent changed tans oil and filter but i dont know if the previous owner might have i been owner for bout a year and when i bought it i did a full tune up and didnt have this problem till a few weeks ago

change the fluid and filter...i had a similar problem. substitute 1qt of lucas oil trans fix for 1 qt of trans fluid. drive it for a day or so and see what happens.

I had a similar problem. But mine would run for a few minutes and die. Replace your thermostate sensor
