DW, Track Bar Hole
 

I've always had Death Wobble to an extent, but its been getting more and more frequent lately. After it happened while going 70 on a busy highway yesterday, I decided it was time to really crack down on it.

I took off the track bar first, as I understand that sometimes the hole could be 'egged out,' causing some wiggle room. I was having some trouble loosening the bolt, so I took the wheel off, used some liquid wrench, and a breaker bar, finally loosened it up. Once off, I looked at the hole. There was a very small amount of wiggle room. Of course, putting it back together, I sheared the bolt. I happened to have a bolt of the equivilent size, but only grade 8.8 handy. The shaft portion was a little more narrow, but its in there until the bolt I ordered offline comes in. (Neither ace nor home depot sell it.)

Since putting the slightly narrower bolt in, the death wobble occurs easier, and more dramatically.

Also, the lower bushing on my right shock is all chewed up. Other than that, the only things I can find wrong are old bushings on the control arm.

I'm on a really tight budget... anyone have their guesses as to the most likely culprit? Also, what should I do about the track bar hole at the axle end? Its stock, so relocating it would throw the axle position off. Could I re-drill the holes, and bushing and use an over sized bolt? Thanks

do you have any lift on it and have you had it aligned latley

no lift at all. yeah, i had it aligned when i swapped back from the winter tires... march/april time frame.

i would look at the control arm bushing's as well the track bar can be an issue but normal there are other problems when you have death wobble like worn bushings and bad steering tie rods and stabilizer this stuff is all pretty cheap but time consuming

mine was egg shaped too so i took a peace of 8th inch plate steel
and drill a new hole tacked it on. fixed.

BTW i didn't have the wobble so it must be just

yeah you can run a slightly larger bolt

When running a larger bolt, what would you do at the nut end?
