Default Dumb question: removing cargo carpet

I'm trying to fight the battle with rust on my 01 Cherokee and before it went to the shop I took a peek under the cargo carpet. Well I noticed there are these cargo strap downs holding the carpet down. I didn't have time to investigate because the tow truck pulled up. Are they riveted in like how they look or do they unbolt from the bottom?

I'm glad I looked because I found a body plug missing letting water in under my carpet.

Those footman loop rings are held down with 1/4" rivets. You have to drill them out. To put the loops back down you will need 1/4" rivets and a rivet puller or fasten them down with sheet metal screws.

You don't even have to remove those tie downs. Just take out out the back seats, trim and seatbelts. You can cut the carpet by the belts if you don't have a good t55 torx bit like me. Just grab and pull and it will come out from under the tie downs.

You sure it's just cause of the plug? I've got a small (occasional) leak from around tail lights on mine. Dunno, my two Lincoln's. Good luck!

How do you get the carpet out from under the spare tire mount bracket?

I just noticed the plug was missing when I saw the rear tire in the stamped hole. I only have to replace the drivers side front pan because its rusted through. I know there is some other surface rust on the other pans so when the drivers is fixed I'm por 15 the whole floor pan, adding some peal and seal for sound deadning, remove the horrible jute backing on the carpet, spray or put grease on the underside of the truck, and spray grease on the windshield jam and gaskets for the 1/4 windows, spray grease inside the rockers, 1/4 panels, inside hatch. A wash and wax and she will be ready to battle the salt. I need to keep this old dog looking great for another 100,000+ miles. Thanks for the help
