Dropping the steering colunm
I'm in the middle of the dreaded evap core replacement and I'm stuck on dropping the steering column. I took the two nuts off the studs that appear to hold it up but its not coming down. The last time I did this type of work on another vehicle the column came right down after loosening the nuts. Should it have dropped right down or will I need to convince it a bit? Is there anything else holding it in place? Thanks in advance.

I think there are two braces on the left side stud that will probably hold it up until they are removed as well. Take note as to how they are positioned before removing them!

I think I removed the "bracket" that was holding the steering column to those studs you are referencing, but if I recall correctly it was not necessary, the steering column simply swung down once I shook it a bit

DO NOT.. I REPEAT... DO NOT pull on the tilt adjustment bar on your steering column when it's just hanging without the bracket on.
Not only can you break some fingers but you'll have a crazy hard time restraightening it once it bends.
