Dropped TC now a rough idle?

Dropped my T-case an inch today and now i get relly rough idle. Im idling fine at about 600-800 rpms but its shaking pretty bad. I can feel it under my feet and hear it rattling the dash. When i idle for awhile the shaking kind of goes in and out. Once i step on the gas and get to about 1200 rpms it quits. I am running straight pipe dumped after the cat so that does cause a little shaking but all of a sudden after installing the TC drop it started this. Any ideas?
:help:

Any vacuum lines around the xfer case that could've come loose?

Didnt think of that. I will have to check after work. Anything else it could be?

it is because you changed the angle of the motor mounts when you did the tc drop. the front part of the motor is tilted up reducing the amount of cushion the mount has. the mounts are two metal plates with rubber between them. might want to get new mounts if it is real bad. though it will still be noticable

Would it be problematic if i just left it alone?

ck1 07-01-2010 10:19 AM

could be if alot of miles on mounts as they will be more likely to break. you will also notice more vibes when in reverse because the motor will torque up and the fan is now closer to radiator and fan shroud. ( i would be very gentle on the skinney pedal when in low range as torque is multiplied when in low range) if mounts are still good then no worries but if the mounts are worn the potenial for the fan to hit something is high
at the very least change the driver side mount as that is the one that is subject to the most torque

agree with CK1 most likely your problem

And don't go to cheap on the mounts. I have a tcase drop and my mounts were mangled. I replaced them 6 months ago with some carquest cheapo's and my driver ones about ready to be replaced again. I'm probably gonna invest in some bombproof mounts

Are there any specific mounts that would get rid of the shaking or make it not as bad? And do you guys just deal with the shaking?

Lol i guess mine is more severe then! It rattles the dash like crazy and shakes the rear view mirrors. I guess ill just have to get used to it but i think i will replace my mounts soon!

personaly I would go with stock rubber mounts but I am way old and hate noise and vibration :) also change out your trans mount cuz that is where alot of vibes get transferred also cuz it is right under yer but so you will feel it more. if you go poly mounts your vibes may be there also as there is less insulating factor in poly then rubber...so I think stock is the way to go...and I am one of the factory camp that when it comes to certain parts then go with what the factory used. meaning I would think your jeep has over 100k on it and most likely the mounts have not been changed. if you with a cheaper mount then there is a good chance that it is inferior to the factory part...pay me now or pay me later comes to mind. any way change all three and i assure you it will be alot better. I added a drop when I lifted my junk and noticed it right away though very minor. my jeep has very low miles and the mounts are good, I am sure I will have to change them out in a year or so sooner if it was a dd but it is only a toy so I aint too worried about it now.
hope this all helped you
