Driver's Door..Window and Regulator replacement 88 Model
I need to replace the driver's side door glass and window regulator on my 88 model Comanche Chief.
This should be identical to a driver's door on a 88 Cherokee.
Does anyone know where I can find a write up/information about this repair.
I have a good glass and regulator, but I would like to have any available info....tricks to know... before I crack this nut.
My son (a good mechanic) removed the donor glass and (manual) regulator from a 90 Cherokee at a parts "pick and pull" and told me that there are a few tricks involved....such as removing the vent window in the door.
He had to go back to work today, so I'm on my own.
I've been turning wrenches for 50 years, so I can handle it
I do know that the regulator is a strange looking animal.
I was expecting a old fashioned "scissor type" regulator, so I was surprised.
Of course, everytime I've had to work on this Jeep (I've owned it for 24 years), I have to "marvel" at the engineering ??ideas??? of Chrysler Motor Corp.
Strange stuff.
If you own one, you know what I mean.
Thanks for any response.

All Makes of Cars
Be glad they didn't use the pos plastic track of the SJ's.
Fairly straight forward swap, like you already said, once you pull the wing window its all down here from there.

I had a write up on another forum. You could view it in Chrome with the add in to let you view old Photobucket pics

I've been working on cars all of my life, and this is the first time I've seen a window regulator (or door glass) like the ones on this truck.
Thanks for the response.

Ok....
I am in a similar situation...
I need the manual regulator only...driver's side
'91 Laredo...4 door
Mine starts skipping when the window is about halfway down..
Does anyone know which year models will cross over and fit...
Several year models look alike...
Starting at the base model and not necessarily all are a Laredo...
Any help appreciated...
Thanks...

The window regulators interchange between models. You can remove them by drilling the 1/4" pop rivets. I suggest installing it the same way with the large automotive rivets. Get a pop rivet gun that will do it. You will be glad you did

4.3LXJ....
Thanks for the install info...
Didn't know it was riveted in...
But do you know what year regulators will work on on a '92..???
And if a 2 door regulator is the same on a 4 door like mine?
Thanks in advance

Not sure between 2 and 4 door, but any regulator between 84 - 96 would work. I got one from a wrecking yard for my 86 and not sure what year that was
